On April 15, 2020, an Open International Competition was launched for the architectural and artistic design of stations on two new branches of the Moscow Metro – “Prospekt MarshalaZhukova” on the Rublevo-Arkhangelskaya Line, and the station with the working name “Klenoviybulvar 2” on the BiryulevskayaLine. The competition has become part of comprehensive work of the city, which is being implemented as part of the Moscow Metro development program.
The BolshayaKoltsevaya (Large Circle) Line is the largest project of the Moscow metro today, but no less important is the development of long-term radial directions. Already today, the BolshayaKoltsevaya Line is being built with the development of new lines from it, which will ensure transport accessibility to residents of remote districts. Two transfer stations of new radial lines from the BolshayaKoltsevaya Line – “Prospekt MarshalaZhukova” on the Rublevo-Arkhangelskaya Line and the station with working name “Klenoviybulvar 2” on the Biryulevskaya Line – are represented in the competition.
The competition was initiated by Mosinzhproekt JSC, the single operator of the Moscow Metro development program. The competition is conducted with support ofthe Moscow Government and with the participation of Sergey Kuznetsov, chief architect of Moscow. Agency for Strategic Development CENTER is the operator of the competition.
The quality and feasibility of the projects will be assessed by a professional jury chaired by Andrey Bochkarev, Deputy Mayor of Moscow in the Moscow Government for Urban Planning Policy and Construction. The jury also includes Sergey Kuznetsov, Chief Architect of Moscow, First Deputy Chairman of Committee for Architecture and Urban Planning of Moscow, Mars Gazizullin, Director General of Mosinzhproekt JSC, Viktor Kozlovskiy, Head of Moscow Metro, as well as leading Russian and foreign specialists in architecture, design and urban planning.

"The Metro is the main mode of transport for Moscow citizens, so development of the metro network is one of the most important urban programs. Continuing the traditions of unique station design, we have already successfully held several open architectural competitions. The participants of the next competition will have to design the look of the stations “Prospekt MarshalaZhukova” on the Rublevo-Arkhangelskaya Line and “Klenoviybulvar 2” on the Biryulevskaya Line, from which it will be possible to transfer to the BolshayaKoltsevaya Line. I am sure that the competition will bring us many unique and effective artistic and architectural solutions that both correspond to world trends, as well as the wishes of Muscovites themselves."
Sergey Kuznetsov, Chief Architect of Moscow, deputy chairman of the jury
"We have serious experience in holding competitions for the development of architectural and artistic concepts of subway stations, and Mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin has always supported us in this matter. And the results have consistently exceeded our expectations thanks to the talent and professionalism of the participants. Today, a part of 9 competition stations has been implemented, and it is time to announce a new competition, already the fifth. Russian and international teams are invited to participate, and it will not be easy to determine the winners. One thing for certain is that it will be another victory for Moscow. We have many interesting promising projects aimed at improving the quality of the urban environment and transport infrastructure, and some of them are successful due to the competition practice."
Mars Gazizullin, General Director of Mosinzhproekt JSC, jury member
“Although the situation in the country is difficult at the moment, we still continue working on the development of the Moscow metro as a general contractor anddesigner. The metro is not just the basis of the Moscow transport system, it is one of the main symbols of the Russian capital, and the interior of these stations for us is higly important. Since 2011, 98 km of new lines and 48 stations have been built with the participation of our specialists. During this time, we held 4 similar competitions. They determined the appearance of 9 stations, two of them - Solntsevo and Novoperedelkino - were introduced in 2018 as part of the Kalinin-Solntsevskaya line, and we plan to complete another Karamyshevskaya station on the BolshayaKoltsevaya Linebefore the end of this year. The commissioning of the remaining stations in the BKL is expected in the next two to three years. Today, taking into account previous experience, we expect from the participantshigh-quality, thoughtful and original projects worthy of the level of the Moscow metro - the recognized pearl of architecture, one of the most beautiful and safe transport systems in the world. You have a unique chance to make your own contribution to its development!”
The competition is open to Russian and foreign architectural bureaus (with a Russian representative office or in consortium with a Russian partner) that are able to attract designers, engineers, planners, and specialists in economics and financial modeling to their team.
