During the period of pandemic, some of people have less chance to get activities and physical contact, some of people are losing their job even life; extreme weather become more often in global, unusual large rain storm happened in Germany and China in this year, huge fire was burning the forest and animals in Australia last year, seaquake and earthquake took thousands of lives in last few years; sea level is rising every year, Glaciers is melting. Environmental issues have been discussed for decades, and it is becoming urgent more and more. Architects are on the frontline of environmental issues and social problems.
Our concept for ‘HOME 2121’ is focusing on the environmental issues that our society is facing right now. Sea level rising, flood disaster and seaquake can turn a modern city into Atlantis easily, the design is offering a proposal of future house which can survive under the unpredictable disaster. This is an irregular building, the form, the concept, the material and the way of construction are unusual, we inspired by a narrative of an old tree growing from a little seed. We believe that growing a building instead of making one is a natural way of constructing. Constructors build a rebar scaffolding and install intelligent plants on the scaffolding, the plants will grow in a specific pattern by following the scaffolding, and it is also controlled by computer, it is a digital version of ancient technique ‘grafting’, after ‘e-grafting’ is finished, pre-made rooms will insert into each level of the building, at the end, workers just need to put some soil on the top of roof and grow some plants, so there are green roof allowing residents go up and have nice view. We name this building as ‘TEE house’, as it is a ‘TREE’ without ‘RANDOM’. ‘TEE house’ is 100% green building, it is the green itself, as it sucks carbon and breath oxygen out, also it does not need many labors during the construction, the form and the pattern of building is fully controlled by constructors and designers, each level of ‘TEE house’ contains 6 to 12 rooms (depends on diameter of building), and each room contains a single family. It’s body and root are strong enough to against storm, earthquake, seaquake and flood, it can stand both on the water and the land, it is able to fit in the forest and the concrete jungle. If there are several ‘TEE house’, we grow bridges to connect them and make them as a community which contains supplies, entertainment, hospital, office and public space. Residents plant crops in garden, so they can support themselves during difficult period, such as lock down.
With large amount of ‘TEE house’, we can design a complex urban traffic networking ‘TEE houses’ and make them a city. In 2121, city of human society could be look like an intelligent jungle, totally eco-friendly, millions of families live in a healthier environment.
