Bohemian Retreat For Digital Detox

Victoria Valenta

In the world where monochrome is the norm, one must long for a dash of color. A breath of fresh air. Stability and organized society made us bare. We long for that something humanly inborn that we lost, something that could inspire us and make us 'fly'. A good story, an inspirational moment, an impulse, exciting heartbeat, a hope to live. We are all nomads on the inside. Whether we officially proclaim it or not. Constant movement is something naturally inborn in all human beings. Having 'a lot' and standing stable is often a burden that is publicly shown as a 'good life'. Actual good life starts on the inside. The more you possess the more you are attached. The less you are attached, the more 'something inner' and 'something that cannot be bought' overcomes you. Muses live in the hearts of those who are not attached to material things. They are devoted to the intangible. Material things are perishable, so why to get attached to it. That is the feeling of bohemianism.

Bohemian design and fashion style, as it is popularized today, has not much in common with its humble origin. It was originally created from not having plenty of material things and living a life of no stability. Having “less” to certain extent meant more freedom and spontaneity. No institutional bondage. No norms. Just create, just live as it comes. They did not care about design nor looks, it was created out of necessity. Often great ideas and insights are formed in the humblest of surroundings. There is one paradox: the more technologically advanced we are the stranger deviations in art are being formed, the more primitive and basic tools we pose the more soulful art forms are being created.

Bohemian design is a great attention grabber. The design and fashion industry took its appealing looks and turn it into selling point. It became just a fabricated exterior shape of something that in its true lifestyle is a distant memory.

Today, since we are immersed into our screens, our human creative force becomes easily neglected. Digital detox is something everyone needs in order to maintain their well-being. There is no better design than bohemian to make an effort and try to create a small retreat room. A place where no screens are allowed. A room where one goes for a digital detox for few hours, or a day.
