MEMENTO MORI
Reminder of the inevitability of death

We have been given this remarkable opportunity to live in this time and place. To pay attention, be confused, lost and to experience what is by every measure - inexplicably impossible existence.
But humanity has been degenerated into a more animalistic state, which reflects the anxious nature of the society. .

This project has been designed to symbolise that nature.

The music piece by Guilherme Bernardes has several incompatible wavelengths. It reminds of dystopia and its blunt anachronism. It seems like it was set neither in the past nor in the present. And not even for/in future.
This architectural conundrum has been explored and addressed in this project. The architectural journey of this music piece has been expressed through a building designed specially to understand the music piece and draw parallels with what's happening around us right now.
The building is very unsympathetic to the people in it. The fate of the occupants of the building is ingrained in its rigid form.

The architectural journey of the music piece has been divided into three parts:
EXPOSITION (Main idea)
DEVELOPMENT (Discover more about main theme)
RECAPITULATION (Original theme is brought back. User experiences difference even though they have experienced the same atmosphere initially, this time they have experience of the development to see things more clearly)

The building, sprouting out of water, is used as.a metaphor for the oppression caused to the residents and the collapse of wellbeing in the society

RESIDENTIAL UNITS
Even though the upper classes enjoy materialistic pleasures, they are trapped within the social constructs of the domineering society. Therefore, that feeling of being trapped has been shown with openings that have been enclosed.
Lower classes reside in the lower levels - As one moves up, the upper classes of the society acquire the higher floors
The angled columns impinge on to the corridor experience, only caring about the structure's strength and not the user experience. Much like what happens around us in our society-societal structure, however oppressive it Is, is always more important than the people inside it.

THINK BOX ON THE TERRACE
We are barely conscious to know that there is an awful lot happening beyond the limitations of our awareness. Billions of improbable lives are unfolding, collaborating and merging together in miraculous ways.
There are stories simultaneously unfolding beneath the surface, in all our individual lives.
I am just a very small piece in a very big puzzle. It is all just as important/ unimportant as I choose it to be. All the pain comes from trying to hold on to any one piece of it while the whole thing moves and changes.

A thinking environment, detached from the societal collapse and the mechanical way of living. Staying on top and tilted, looking at the water and the city as a whole, observing pedestrians running on the streets to get through their respective routines, and to introspect the meaning of life from a macro perspective.
